At Thornton Dale primary school, children are immersed in a language-rich curriculum which promotes vocabulary acquisition. Opportunities for talk are embedded throughout all of our learning cycles; with children debating, persuading, performing, explaining and informing.
Whilst reading and writing are taught as discrete lessons across our weekly timetable, both subjects are also golden threads within our wider curriculum offer. Our wider curriculum is interconnected and each Learning Cycle is driven by a high quality text which is used as a stimulus to further support pupils' reading and writing.
In our Whole class reading sessions, you will see pupils unpicking texts to infer, make prediction and retrieve key information and vocabulary.
In our Collect, Connect and Create sessions within writing, you will see teachers using high quality texts to inspire, motivate and engage our pupils.
